Destroy; To probe its creation B.Satyanarayana, Department of High Energy Physics Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Mumbai Particle physics studies the tiniest objects of Nature. Lokking intio the very small and fundamental, it also looks very far back into time, just a few moments after the Big Bang. Experimentally, we get the particle to interact and study the resulting products and features. Large Hadron Collider (LHC) - the massive particle smasher and several most complex scientific experiments built on its circumferance, are expected to reform our understanding of nature at the most fundamental level. In this lecture, we will present the motivation to build such facilities and experiments, describe these engineering marvels and give a flavour of physics they are capable of producing. We will also address the myths associated with this mega scientific project.
